After studying three books, I decided upon the following required textbook:

Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness, 7th. edition, by Rachel E. Spector

The textbook is available on amazon.com. This text will be replaced by the new 8th. edition after it is available. It is connected to a website that provides the study assignments for each chapter, including quizzes, which have been incorporated into the Via Vita module along with other assignments and preceptor skills verification, to meet NARM requirements.

The other books that I have studied, and which I do recommend are:

*Guide to Culturally Competent Health Care, 2nd. edition, by Larry D. Purnell, and

*Transcultural Health Care, A Culturally Competent Approach, 3rd. edition, by Larry D. Purnell and Betty J. Paulanka

The above two textbooks cover a large number of cultural heritages, which can be very beneficial if one is practicing midwifery in a community with a multitude of cultures represented, or plans to travel to different parts of the world.
